Paying for Hospice

Paying for Hospice

The last thing you need to worry about after the diagnosis of a serious illness is how to afford paying for care.

One of the main concerns when it comes to making a decision to elect hospice is….

How Will I Pay For Services?

We have some news that will hopefully bring you peace!

Most insurance carriers (including Medicare and Medicaid) cover hospice care. Our staff has experience working with your insurance companies. They will work with you and your insurers to determine coverage and obtain the necessary authorizations.

If you don’t have insurance, don’t worry!

United Hospice works with patients regardless of their ability to pay. If you do not have health insurance, you may qualify for charity care or reduced fees.

If I choose the Joe Raso Hospice Residence, how does payment for hospice services work?

When you choose the Joe Raso Hospice Residence for hospice services, two different payments will be required to cover the cost of care.

First, there is the payment that covers hospice services. Hospice care is most often, but not always, covered by Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance. Our United Hospice Staff will work with the patient and their family to verify coverage for hospice services.

Second, the payment covers the residential services, including room and board. Room and board is covered by Medicaid (not Medicare) and may be reimbursed by some long-term care policies. Private payment for room and board is accepted if coverage is not available through insurance.

Some of the residential services provided at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence include:

  • 24 hour care provided by the nurses and hospice aides
  • Use of all public areas of the residence and grounds
  • In room accommodations to enable family members or significant others to remain throughout the night
  • Meals for residents
  • Snack foods for residents and guests
  • Housekeeping and linen services
  • Trash removal
  • Telephone and internet access
  • Television with basic cable service
