United Hospice specializes in bereavement & grief support.
We offer up to 13 months of bereavement and grief support for those who have lost a loved one undergoing hospice care. Our specially trained counselors and social workers work with families to help them navigate the grieving process. We also have a team of volunteers who have a unique perspective of all aspects of bereavement to help our hospice families. Together they are a strong support team. They are here to help you begin to adjust to change and loss.
We offer several different types of grief support including:
Individual Sessions
We offer one-on-one sessions with a specially trained bereavement counselor who will work with you in a quiet, private environment. Our mission is to honor life and bring comfort to families who have lost a loved one.
Support Groups
Meeting and talking with others who have also suffered a similar loss can be healing. Therefore, United Hospice offers support groups, guided by a specially trained bereavement counselor, for those who have lost a spouse, or a parent or sibling. These sessions are open at no cost to those who have lost a loved one in hospice care, and at a nominal fee to other members of the Orange and Rockland community who have suffered such a loss.
Here is some specific information about our support groups:
Spouse Loss Support Group
Our spouse loss support group meets weekly for 8 consecutive weeks to help those who have lost a partner after a fight with a severe illness. Depending on which is most convenient for the bereaved, these groups meet during the day or evening.
Parent or Sibling Loss Support Group
Our support group for adults who have lost a parent or sibling is also offered weekly for 8 consecutive weeks. These group sessions are offered both during the day and in the evening so that families will be able to find a time that fits their schedule.
Pre-registration is required for all Support Groups. Please call our Bereavement Department at 845.634.4974 or email bereavement@unitedhospiceinc.org with any questions or to pre-register. If you have recently lost a loved one and would like to be a part of one of our support groups, we encourage you to give us a call. There is a nominal fee for any non-hospice family member.
