Hospice Nurse, RN On-Call

Part-Time, On-Call, Evening Position (4:30pm – 12:30am)

Alternating weekly:  3 nights and then 4 nights to include weekends

United Hospice is offering an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled, compassionate NYS licensed Registered Nurse to join our talented team to provide RN care and expertise to meet the ever-changing needs of our community-based patients. In this unique position, you may work from home; however, you must live in Rockland County or within a 30-minute drive or less and respond to calls from community patients. However, if you reside further away, we will provide you an opportunity to work from our Joe Raso Hospice Residence or our Administrative Offices as a base for the evening shifts. When needed, you will go out to the patient’s home to provide a nursing visit. You are paid for the full shift, regardless of whether you are triaging calls or providing visits to a patient’s home as needed.

We provide 24 hour administrative and clinical on-call support 24/7, 365 days a year, to include either our Medical Director or Nurse Practitioner available to discuss issues or answer questions. There is a thorough training period before working independently.

It is essential our employees have an understanding and commitment to hospice philosophy of care. Working with a diverse patient population, you must be able to communicate effectively, while sustaining a caring, kind and professional disposition. The successful candidate will have strong clinical assessment skills and excellent written and verbal communication.

The qualified candidate must have at least two years recent clinical nursing experience in either hospice or hospital-based med/surg nursing, with electronic medical record competence. Admission and end-of-life care experience preferred. Within three years of hire, will sit for and pass the Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Certification Exam, with additional salary enhancement once achieved.

Daily access to an automobile is required. A valid NY or NJ State Driver’s License, ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required. If you are working in our community-based program, you will be driving from patient residence to patient residence with mileage reimbursement for travel incurred.
